A ridge of pines right above the village, with views of Almora, the valleys and, on clear days, the snow peaks. In the sixties it was called "Hippie Hill": Lama Govinda lived here, and Allen Ginsberg and Timothy Leary came to visit. Today it's simply the most beautiful spot for sunset.

How to get there

  1. Set outFrom the Chabad House to the road, then walk south toward the Kasar Devi temple.
  2. ClimbNear the temple, take the trail west up to the ridge [to confirm the trail].
  3. SitFind a rock with a view of Almora, and wait for the sunset.

Good to know

  • There are leopards in the area. Don't stay on the ridge after dark, and always bring a flashlight.
  • The trail is sandy and slippery in places. Wear closed shoes.
  • Want a sunrise? Same ridge, early in the morning, with chai from the Chabad House.
