Why we're here
On a mission from the Rebbe, King Moshiach
We founded the Chabad House in Kasar Devi on a mission from the Lubavitcher Rebbe, King Moshiach. The Rebbe taught that every Jew, anywhere in the world, can add light, and that every small mitzvah brings the Redemption closer.
That's why we're here, on a hill facing the Himalayas: so every Jew who passes through has a warm home, Shabbat, tefillin and a kind word, and so that together we prepare the world to greet Moshiach.
Long live our Master, our Teacher and our Rebbe, King Moshiach, forever and ever

Orange = very winding mountain road. Almost every route ends with three hours of hairpin bends from Haldwani to Almora. Only the helicopter skips them. Take a motion sickness pill, and sit up front.

Notes on the fridge
Things travelers in Kasar only find out after two days.
- Bring cash! The nearest ATMs are in Almora. Come up with cash: UPI doesn't work with a foreign phone number.
- A flashlight at night There are leopards in the area. After dark, don't walk the trails alone.
- A fleece in your bag About 2,000 meters up. Evenings are cool, and winter nights get close to freezing.
- Phone signal Jio and Airtel work in Almora. In the village it changes from house to house.
- Indian law Hashish is common on the hill, and it's illegal. Even a small amount can mean up to a year in prison.
- Guests in the village Pay what you agreed, say namaste, and keep the hill clean.
- Hiking on Friday? Be back before sunset for Kabbalat Shabbat, and sign up for the meal ahead of time.

Nice to meet you
You came up the hill for the quiet. So did we. We came on the Rebbe's mission, so that every Jew who reaches Kasar has a warm home: for Shabbat, for a question, for a cup of chai, or just to talk.

Building Kasar From a balcony to a hall
The Chabad House started on a makeshift balcony with a tiny kitchen. We're building a hall, so there's room for everyone on Shabbat and the holidays. [to confirm the project is active]
